Why Do You Train?

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:33:]]

What are some reasons you train?

Performance.   I want to get better at what I love to do.  It’s important for me to see and hear the improvement.  I’m inspired to continue to get better by others who encourage me to follow my dreams.  I am motivated by others that are accomplished in this area.

Why do you feel your training makes you better at what you do?

Plain and simple, if I didn’t train I wouldn’t get better.  If I don’t continue to get better than it becomes stale and boring (= no motivation).  If I am consistent and work hard I have confidence when it comes to performance.  Sometimes it’s easier for me to work on the things that come easier to me and not on the things that are more difficult.  The real sense of accomplishment and satisfaction comes out of working through the hard stuff until mastered.  Sometimes it doesn’t seem that improvements are happening at all, but as I look back I can see all of the little steps are adding up to bigger ones.

What goals have you accomplished outside the gym that you attribute to improved fitness?

I have improved my core (for trumpet playing), arm and leg strength.  I am able to do some pull ups (which I have never been able to do).   I have a long way to go but I’m anticipating some great results.

What else do you enjoy about training?

I am enjoying learning new things that help me feel better physically.  Quality of life is definitely better.  Training can be downright hard and exhausting sometimes, but when my heart stops pounding out of my chest I feel great.  I enjoy the competition and encouragement from others as we train.

Bonus:  Both my wife and I are training together so we have a pre scheduled date 3 days a week.  :)

I’m not sure if it’s possible to get my abs to a 6 pack at my age but hey you never know.  Look for me on the cover of the June 2012 men’s health magazine.
